quick question, under settings when i change colors, only the Tree view on the right actually changes – any ideas why this is ?

Hi,
I like to work with your IDE. However, it doesn’t seem to detect a UDK-Installation in Windows 8 (Release Preview). It would be nice to have it fixed until release…
Thanks 🙂

Thats odd. Are you sure you selected UDK Root Directory? eg: C:\UDK\UDK-2012-03

Hey its me again. As I said earlier I really love your IDE! Only problem is when I woke up this morning to practice more script, the program wouldn’t run! So I tried the repair button, uninstalling, deleting, and re-installing the program and it still wont open! I later realized that the program is running but the window wont show/go on top. I can mouse over the active icon button and it will show the screen! Here’s what I’m talking about: http://i1076.photobucket.com/albums/w455/Goose053/NoAppear.png

Hey goose…Am extremely sorry for this issue. Many users have reported this and am working on a fix. As a workaround, do this: Go to the following directory: “C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local” and then delete “Dynamic_Effects” folder. Now start Unreal X-Editor and it will show up. Once again, I apologize for this issue.

No problem! Its working just fine now which is all I need.

I’m very new to Unrealscript and for the most part I love your editor. The single thing I’ve come across that bugs me is that when you comment out a line or a block of code, all of the keywords in the comment stay their respective highlighted colors, instead of changing to the comment color. This behavior is very unlike every other IDE I’ve ever worked with and this behavior IMHO should at least be an option.
Thanks!

Hello Dan…I apologize for the issue. I’ve fixed it and from v3.0 keywords will also stay commented. 🙂

Hi! Yesterday I downloaded and installed it but it crashes right away on startup and the “unhandled exception” crash window pops up. I use windows vista 32 bits with no service packs installed. Can I do something (install an extra lib or anything else) to run the editor? Thanks!

Tried to run on Windows 8, crashes right at the start of running the app, offers to send crash report. I’ve tried to uninstall/reinstall with no luck. I thought it might be related to dotnet 3.5, but i got that installed and it’s still crashing on launch. This is such a great program, and I’d love to be able to use it under Windows 8…any idea what might be causing it?
LikeLike
Not Familiar with windows 8 but is there a choice under properties, compatibility to run as win 7? Just thought Id throw that out there
LikeLike
Well there should be an option in Windows 8 to run in compatibility mode. Right click the exe (or shortcut) and select compatibility tab and select “Run this program in compatibility mode for”. Select Windows 7. But i dont think that will work. Does Unreal X-Editor crashes for you right on startup? Did you tried v3.1?
LikeLike
I’ve tried compatibility mode, administrator, different versions of the editor…none of it works. Just crashes the second it starts. It says can’t find valid udk directory (which it said first time I setup under win7, too), then crash report pops up. It looks like most people can use under win7, why not me?

I dont think just putting +Editpackages in ini file will make UDK crash. Are you sure you didnt do anything else? In which ini did you add it? Try deleting all ini files that starts with UDK (eg: UDKEngine.ini, UDKGame.ini etc) and then compile again.

I haven’t added custom parameter support for UDK Editor. -log can only be added in UDK Game. If you want it in UDK Editor just let me know and I’ll add it in the next release.

I think this is the best UnrealScript editor currently existing, lol. Nice job.
There is one thing tho, is there any chance you can make an option to not change tabs to spaces?
I like tabs allot more, because with tabs I only have to backspace once instead of 4 times to indent back.
Besides that, it’s also a code standard from Epic (http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/CodingStandard.html#Tabs).
Thanks in advance,

Thanks for your continued support for this software. A feature that I don’t quite like is the auto indent. Most of the time I want to start at the margin on new lines. In some situations it is helpful to start on the same indent. However there is no support for Shift+tab to tab one indent back. This requires that I backspace 4 times. More often than not it impedes my workflow and I would like the option to disable auto indent. Many times I want to insert new variables following my class declaration. Since the class modifiers are indented, new lines are indented as well. Thanks again! ~Jordan

Hello Jordan. Shift+Tab works for multiple lines.
LikeLike
Hi. Sorry, I don’t know what you mean. Am I the only one with this problem?
In most text editors, Shift + Tab will “indent” to the left. In Unreal-X Editor it has the same effect as Tab such that Shift+Tab will indent to the right 4 spaces. I would like a keyboard shortcut to delete the 4 spaces or the option to disable auto indent. Managing the syntax of my classes gets tedious.
With respect,
Jordan

Hi Jordan,
What i mean is if you select multiple lines (drag and select multiple lines. ie 2 lines or more) and press Shift+Tab it will indent to the left. 🙂

Hi Meyochael,
First of all I apologize for the late response. I saw this yesterday but was unable to respond. Am sorry to hear you are having issues with Unreal X-Editor.
That second image seems weird. I think this is somewhat related to Unreal X-Editor Installer. Can you please do this:
Uninstall the existing version.
Download again the latest build from another mirror (If you downloaded from Mirror #1 then use Mirror #2 now)
Install it with Admin rights.
Start Unreal X-Editor and do the same things as usual.
If the crash still occurs then let me know. I will make a portable version for you and send it out to your email (If its not a******_****o_******o@yahoo.co.id then let me know your email).

for note , not only this software which is occur an error , many others too , especially patcher software…
me myself as a programmer not sure how to fix it yet…
from UAC i set to disable all warn , disabling firewall , using “net user administrator /active:yes” on command prompt , editing secpol.msc on winkey+R (enabling debug and else) , and some other thing I did to give permission if there’s any debugging…
result ? epic fail… *epic frown face…
and again , I really sorry for this result , I think I will give up for a moment…
thank you very much mate , keep up good work , maybe I will wait for next version , who know it works… 🙂

One thing i just noticed is that in your first screenshot it says Fault Module Name: mscorwks.dll
This probably means your .NET Framework is corrupted. If you want, you can try to uninstall all .NET versions in your system and then use Windows Update to re-install them. This may probably fix the issue.

If you downloaded the update from Unreal X-Editor then all you have to do is replace the old exe with the latest one. If you downloaded the setup from Downloads Page then you have to uninstall the old version and then install the newer one.

The editor does not highlights API classes, functions etc., Only keywords are highlighted. What could be a reason?
I mean I watched some guy’s tutorial and he have stuff like “begin object” highlighted, and there was a fancy autocomplete stuff which was showing the functions you can use after you write a dot when write something like “someClass.someProperty”. I want it too. But how?
As I said, I have only keywords highlited

Hi Dmitriy,
In the main ribbon tab theres a button called Build Class Autocomplete. Click it and Unreal X-Editor will build a class autocomplete database. After it finished you should see a new Autocomplete menu with class declarations.
In the upcoming version (v3.1.5) of Unreal X-Editor i have added dynamic function highlighting. More info to come. 🙂

Hey man! Quite amazing editor, good job.
I’m thinking about switching from WOTGreal to yours: anyway, there are a few things i’d like to appoint for the future versions:
If a class is declared in this way:
“class MyPawn
extends GamePawn;”
instead of the classic:
“class MyPawn extends GamePawn;”
it fails to correctly build the class tree, the “Advanced Class Functions” don’t show up, and if they show up but a child has a declaration of that sort, it crashes.
It’s not vital, and i agree it was a trivial indentation (now fixed anyway), but just to let you know…
And in the end, two function that i’m missing, in order of importance:
– variable names autocomplete (those declared in the class/struct/wathever)
– function jump (in WOTGreal, if you keep CTRL pressed down and you click on a function or variable called/used, it jumps on the function/variable declaration, eventually opening the file. Then you can jump back).
Keep it up! 😉

Hi zamy,
Thank you for the suggestions. The “class MyPawn extends GamePawn” thingy needs to be in a single line because when you right click, the advance class functions expects the content to be in a single line. Thats because some states use extends too so the right click menu makes sure you right click on a class name. 🙂
Variable names autocompletion is something that i want to do too. It might come in a future release.
Function Jump is already available. Although not as good as WOTGreal you can try it by right clicking on a function and selecting Go To Function. Also there is another feature called Find Function.

Didn’t seen that, ty 🙂
About the autocompletion, then can’t wait for the next release 😉

Hi there.
I’ve just installed the thing for the first time and text editing itself is very slow. Probably half a second until the symbol appears in the code after the actual keypress. Version 3.1.5, Win7-x64. Maybe it’s because I haven’t set up the UDK installation? I’m using it to edit Deus Ex code. Any help is appreciated.

Looks like this is so slow only in DeusExPlayer.uc, which is 368kb of text. Is there any way to make it work faster here? I already turned off the additional panels but it didn’t help.

Its a known issue. So far i am not able to fix that but maybe i can do it in future. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks. Another thing that’s slightly annoying is when I switch to another tab with Ctrl-Tab or Ctrl-Shift-Tab, the cursor is not focused on the text window, so I have to press Tab again to focus it on the text. I’d prefer if the focus would not leave the text window on switching tabs.

at A.A.OnCreateMainForm()
at Microsoft.VisualBasic.ApplicationServices.WindowsFormsApplicationBase.OnRun()
at Microsoft.VisualBasic.ApplicationServices.WindowsFormsApplicationBase.DoApplicationModel()
any idea on why?

Hey I have a question about an older project, the dll save system. I implamented your code as asked, found that it didnt save what level you are on, tried to put in my own code, then the save system entirely stopped working. Is there any way that You could tell me whats wrong with my code and how to replace/fix it?

Hi William,
I am now using only Unreal Engine 4 and no longer uses UDK. Thats why Unreal X-Editor is no longer being developed. I dont have UDK or that save system so unfortunately am helpless. Sorry about that.

Hey Ryan! I wanted to ask you that, does the x-editor has some kind of autocomplete or Intellisense feature?? As I’m new in unrealscript I frequently used to forget the keywords, so it will help me greatly.

Make sure you select the main directory of UDK installation. Eg: C:\Program Files\UDK-2012-03. DO NOT select any sub directories like Binaries, Development or anything.

I installed the Unreal X-Editor, but I can’t seem to find the Unreal Script Wizard within it. It’s not in the Misc tab/ribbon or whatever. It’d be awesome if you could tell me how to get it/find it. I’ve searched the web for others with a similar problem, but to no avail. Perhaps you could include how to get the wizard in the help menu? I see that under the Misc. section of the ribbons, the screenshot doesn’t show the wizard button. That’s exactly what I see.
It’d be awesome if you could get back to me. Thanks!

Unreal Script Wizard is only visible after setting up UDK installation directory in the settings and restart.

Is there something else i need to put in?

Hi Ryanjon,
I am trying to get some legacy UT server-client scripts to work. I am targeting UT GOTY (UT99) version. The scripts have no graphic requirements, just data transfer and translation / parsing.
I have no previous experience with UT scripting, so I am looking for a simple tool / IDE for editing, debugging and compiling the scripts / classes to see if I can get them to work. I installed your X-Editor, but building / debugging seems to require installation of the UDK and seems to target the newer versions of UT (only?).
Questions:
1) Is it indeed necessary to install the UDK to compile and debug UT scripts.
2) If I have the UDK installed, will I be able to target UT99.
3) Perhaps there is a better way to do what I want?
Thanks! Jan

Hi Jan,
Unreal X-Editor was designed specifically for UDK. I never tried it with any UT versions so i’m not sure how it works. If i had the source code for Unreal X-Editor i would have compiled a copy specifically for you but unfortunately my HDD died so everything is gone. 😦

iF 64bit compiler is always gray out, you can enable it via
C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\Unreal X-Editor\Compile Config.ini
